Reflecting on 2025: Progress, Partnership, and the Path Forward for Soil Health in Virginia

The Virginia Soil Health Coalition brings farmers, conservation professionals, researchers, and organizations together around a shared goal: building healthier soils across Virginia. Our 2025 Annual Report highlights the progress that collaboration makes possible.

Over the past year, partners across the state worked together to expand soil health education, strengthen networks, and support the adoption of practices that improve soil function, resilience, and productivity. The report captures not only what happened in 2025 but also the people, partnerships, and momentum that have continued to grow since the Coalition's formalization in 2021.

The 2025 report highlights the power of collaboration. Through trainings, field events, partnerships, and educational outreach, the Coalition helped connect producers and professionals with practical tools and knowledge to support soil health in real-world systems.

Across Virginia, farmers, conservation districts, agencies, nonprofits, and universities contributed their expertise and energy to advancing soil health. From on-farm demonstrations and workshops to collaborative learning opportunities, these efforts continue to strengthen a statewide community committed to resilient soils and productive working lands.

The report also highlights our progress across several key areas:

• Coalition impact in numbers

• Priorities in practice

• Our growing network of partners

• The funders and supporters who make this work possible

Together, these highlights demonstrate how collective action is translating into real momentum for soil health across the Commonwealth. While the Annual Report reflects on what has been accomplished, it also sets the stage for what comes next.

In 2025, the Coalition worked closely with partners and the Steering Committee to develop a 2026–2028 Strategic and Collective Action Plan. This plan outlines shared priorities, strengthens collaboration across organizations, and helps guide efforts to expand soil health education, technical support, and the adoption of on-the-ground practices.

By aligning around common goals, the Coalition and its partners can amplify their impact and continue advancing soil health across Virginia’s agricultural and conservation landscapes.

The 2025 Annual Report offers a deeper look at the work, partnerships, and progress that shaped the past year. Most importantly, it highlights the people and organizations who make this work possible.

We invite you to explore the full annual report and see how collaboration continues to move soil health forward across Virginia.
